Our 2015 Lapeer County FFA calendar captures our year in FFA while enhancing the support of community partners. Haley Westover is seen delivering one of our sponsors, Lapeer Dental Centre, their free calendar for purchasing an advertisement sponsorship. So far 43 FFA calendars were sold to parents and community members while FFA members solicited 36 calendar sponsors making $2,775 in advertising sales. Now our FFA members, alumni, parents, and community partners will know when our FFA activities are happening for the 2016 year.
the FFA animal science students all participated in the State FFA Broiler Contest and raised 100 broilers at school. As part of the education, 52 members learned the proper care of chickens including nutrition, sanitation, health and processing. They kept accurate records of feed and weight gain and compared two broiler feeds in an Agriscience research project with the birds. The chickens were donated to the Stone Soup Food Pantry and families in the community. Emily Fricko is testing the automatic watering system and feed as a part of daily care.
